How to use emotion tags
- Write or paste the text you will send as
inputto the speech endpoint. - Put the cursor right before the words that need a feeling and click an emotion, e.g.
[emotion=sad]. A tag lasts until the next tag or the end of the text. - Add a pace tag next to it if needed:
[emotion=calm][pace=slow]. Only one tag of each type per section. - Fix anything the checker flags. Wrong values aren't rejected by the API; they just do nothing.
- Click Copy text and paste it into your API call.
Example: [emotion=happy]We passed the audit!. Tags are not spoken. The docs say tags work in English and are expected (untested) to work in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Hindi.

FAQ
What are Voxtral emotion tags?
They are inline markers you put inside the input text of Mistral's Voxtral TTS (text-to-speech) model to change how part of the text is spoken. They are written in square brackets, like [emotion=happy], and are not read aloud.
How do I write an emotion tag?
Use the exact form [emotion=value] with one of the 34 official values, in lowercase with no spaces, placed right before the text it should affect. It applies from that point until the next tag or the end of the input.
Can I combine an emotion tag with a pace tag?
Yes. Write them one after the other, for example [emotion=calm][pace=slow]. You cannot put two tags of the same type on the same section of text.
What happens if I misspell a tag?
According to the official docs, the API does not reject a value outside the supported list. A request like [emotion=ecstatic] still returns audio, but the tag has no effect. That is why this page checks your tags before you send them.
What are pace tags and sound tags?
Pace tags set the speaking rate: very-slow, slow, moderate, fast or very-fast. Sound tags (called disfluencies in the docs), such as [laugh], [sigh] or [breath], add natural sounds. The documented sound list is non-exhaustive.
Is this tool official? Does it send my text anywhere?
No, it is an unofficial helper and is not affiliated with Mistral AI. Everything runs in your browser; your text is never uploaded or stored.
